NOTICE TO STOP WORK, READY TO EDIT.
A direction to a party working under you to suspend operations, with the effective date, time and the specific portions of work covered.
A verbal stop-work instruction is one nobody can prove and everybody remembers differently. This one states the date, the hour and the scope, which is what makes it enforceable and what stops the work continuing at your cost. It's emailed as an attachment, and everything you need to change is highlighted. This one goes DOWN: to a subcontractor or supplier working under you.
Read this before you send it. This is a real legal document rather than an example, and it's a starting point rather than a finished one. Notice windows, filing deadlines and the enforceability of several standard clauses vary by state, and your own contracts will have terms this doesn't know about. Have your attorney review it before you use it. SPM isn't a law firm and nothing here is legal advice.
3 THINGS, IN ORDER.
Be specific about which portions stop. A blanket suspension of a whole subcontract is a different legal act from stopping one activity.
Give the effective date and time rather than 'immediately'.
Say what happens next: what has to be resolved before work resumes, and who decides.
No charge. It goes to a real address rather than sitting on a link, which is the only thing asked for. Every field you need to change is highlighted in the document itself.
