NOT HIRING TODAY, TAKING RESUMES.
We aren't actively looking for our next hire, but if you'd like your resume on file for when we are, submit it here. SPM The Construction CFO is a CFO and accounting firm for concrete, civil, utilities, SWPPP and electrical contractors doing $1M to $12M a year. The next role we expect to fill is a construction CFO, and an Executive Assistant may follow, either a person on the team or a company that does that work on a 1099 basis.
THINKERS AND DOERS, EVERY TIME.
Josh is still writing this part, so here is the short of it for now. We hire thinkers and doers, the people who look at a number, work out why it is wrong and then go fix it. Somebody who waits to be told which button to push next will be unhappy here, and so will we.
WHAT EACH JOB LOOKS LIKE.
Every role at SPM is operations first, which means we look at how the work in the field gets done before we look at the books. These are the two roles we expect to fill next. The application asks a few questions for each, and each one asks how you would handle something that comes up in this work every month.
Construction CFO Keep me on file
Find what is wrong in the operation, fix it, then build the numbers around the fix.
Our clients are concrete, civil, utilities, SWPPP and electrical contractors doing $1M to $12M a year. Most of them know something is off and cannot point to it yet. As an SPM CFO you meet with a set of those owners every month, read their job costing and WIP, and tell them in plain words what to change on the jobsite and in the office.
Then you hold them to it at the next meeting. The bookkeeping, the bank recs and the ControlQore setup belong to the team, so your hours go to the owner and the decisions that make the business profitable. You will talk about cash, crews and bids far more than debits and credits, and that is the point of the job.
- Lead the monthly strategy meeting for each of your clients and leave every owner with a short list of to-dos.
- Read job costing, WIP and the 13 week cash flow forecast, and explain what they mean for the next bid.
- Line up job cost codes with how the client estimates, so the estimate and the actual cost compare line by line.
- Coach owners on pay when paid terms, retainage, billing and AP timing so payroll is never a close call.
- Work with Josh and Stewart on proposals and onboarding for new clients.
Executive Assistant Keep me on file
Keep Josh's week organized so the clients get his best hours.
Josh splits his week between client meetings, sales calls, speaking and the firm itself. The Executive Assistant owns the calendar, the inbox, the follow ups and the small jobs that pile up between meetings. It could be one person on the team or a company that does this work on a 1099 basis.
Either way, the job is the same: notice what needs doing and get it done before Josh has to ask. You will work inside the SPM Hub, Microsoft 365 and DocuSign every day, and you will know the clients by their project numbers within a month.
- Manage Josh's calendar and book client, sales and onboarding meetings through the SPM Hub.
- Sort the inbox every morning and draft replies for Josh to approve.
- Keep the CRM current after calls: notes, next steps and deal stages.
- Send DocuSign envelopes, collect the signatures and file the documents in SharePoint.
- Order equipment and set up accounts when someone new joins the team.
PUT YOUR RESUME ON FILE.
Pick the role, attach your resume and answer the questions for it. A few honest sentences on each question tell us more than a polished cover letter does. Josh reads every application himself, and we reach out when we hire for that role.
