VISTA OR CONTROLQORE? THE DIFFERENCE IS SCALE.
Trimble Vista, formerly Viewpoint, is the deepest configuration in our comparison: complex multi-entity accounting, heavy payroll, and equipment and service management in one ledger. It is built and quoted for contractors from $50M up, with in-house IT. Analysts call it overkill for small contractors. ControlQore suits $1M to $100M and beyond, goes live in 60 days and prices on revenue.
If you are a $60M civil or heavy highway contractor with an IT team, Vista is a serious answer and this page will tell you to take a hard look at it. If you are a $5M subcontractor, it is not built for you. Trimble quotes every deal individually, so there is no published licence or implementation number, and analysts note implementation cost can equal the first year of software. Implementations are measured in quarters. ControlQore documents 60 days. Every Vista fact below comes from our software comparison page, last checked August 2026.
WHAT EACH ONE DOES.
| Capability | Trimble Vista | ControlQore |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Large general, specialty, civil and heavy highway contractors with in-house IT | Subs and self-performing GCs wanting one platform for the long term |
| Revenue range it suits | $50M to $500M and up | $1M past $100M |
| Multi-entity accounting and heavy payroll | Deep, a core strength | Not its focus |
| Published price | None, quoted per deal | SPM publishes the rate |
| How the price scales | By user counts and modules | On revenue, $150 per $1M, no seat fees |
| Implementation | Measured in quarters | 60 days |
| WIP and job cost | Built in, live cost reporting | Built in, by project and phase |
| Equipment and service management in the ledger | Yes | Not its focus |
| Corporate cards coded to a job | No cards issued by the platform | Yes, with project spend limits |
Trimble publishes no price, so the table says "quoted" and nothing is assumed on its behalf. Every capability line is limited to what each vendor documents. The full 28-platform comparison, with a source and a date against every price, is on the software comparison page.
WHEN YOU ARE LARGE AND COMPLEX.
Vista is built for large general, specialty, civil and heavy highway contractors with in-house IT. It handles multi-entity accounting and heavy payroll, tracks compliance on subcontracts and purchase orders including waivers, bonds and certified payroll, and keeps equipment and service management in the same ledger. For a company that operates at that scale, the depth is the point.
The documented limits are the reason smaller firms look elsewhere. Every deal is quoted, so there is no number to check. Implementations are measured in quarters and the configurability tends to extend them. Cost depends on user counts and modules, the platform issues no cards, and analysts say it does not scale down.
WHEN YOU ARE $1M TO $100M AND WANT SPEED.
ControlQore is a construction ledger with WIP, job costing by phase against the estimate, pay applications, retention and lien waivers built in. It prices on revenue at $150 per $1M with no per-user fees, so every project manager, foreman and estimator can be in the system at no extra cost, and it works the same way at $1M and past $100M.
Implementation is documented at 60 days. It issues corporate cards with project spend limits, so a purchase is coded to a job when it is made, and its Procore integration is native. The honest limits: it is newer than the older platforms, so it has a shorter track record, and inside an SPM engagement it is implemented and operated by us, so it is not a product a contractor buys and configures alone.
WHERE WE COME OUT.
Pick Vista if you are above $50M, operate several entities, carry heavy payroll or equipment fleets in the same ledger, and have staff who can own an implementation measured in quarters. That is its job and it does it well.
Pick ControlQore if you are a subcontractor or self-performing GC between $1M and $12M, or anywhere below Vista's range. You get a construction ledger with WIP, a published price and a documented 60 days.
If you are between the two, around $25M to $50M, the question is complexity and not revenue. Count your entities and payroll jurisdictions before you decide.
